WW2 Japanese Type 98 Shin Gunto Army Officer's Sword with Original Leather and W

Price

$1,200.00

Original WWII Imperial Japanese Army officer's sword, Type 98 shin guntō, in early-war configuration. It comes in a field-used leather combat cover (saya cover) with a fur wrap near the tip, a single hanger, and a retaining strap at the mouth. The leather shows authentic wear, flaking, and age consistent with field service.

The handle wrap is complete and the ray skin is intact. The scabbard is worn with some leather loss but all around is solid. There is a fur pelt wrapped around the tip of the scabbard. The handle doesn’t come off. The blade has an extremely faint hamon.

The handle (tsuka) has a large white ray skin (samé) panel under tight brown cord wrap (tsuka-ito). The brass fittings include a kashira (pommel cap) and a fuchi (collar) at the guard, a wrist cord at the pommel, and a brass tsuba (guard) with the seppa (spacers) and habaki (blade collar).
